EDFU Foundation Newsletter | August 1, 2023
New changes to how you receive the EDFU Foundation newsletter.
Our first newsletter of August 2023! We hope your summer is going well and if you’ve started school we offer our best thoughts on your academic journey.
There are changes to how often you will receive our newsletter in your inbox- we will only send the newsletter to your email once a month.
Why the changes?
We have listened to the feedback from our community and many of you have stated being overwhelmed by the amount of emails you receive daily in your inbox. So, we will limit how many times we email you!
The EDFU Foundation newsletter will continue to publish weekly on Tuesdays and you’ll be able to find them here on our Substack.
We will continue to listen to your feedback and it is always welcomed!
The Bay Area Street Pantry had a great July and we’re officially expanding in August.
Last Saturday, on July 29, 2023, we participated in the annual JTA Foundation Backpack giveaway, hosted by Fremont High School. Our Bay Area Street Pantry program partnered with our main food provider, Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB), to provide free food for the families that came through the event. There were 189 families that stopped by to get food, which resulted in 885 people in the Oakland area being fed!
We’re proud to announce our partnership with Fremont High School for the 2022-2023 school year. We will be providing food for the students and their families every month.
Our emergency vehicle fundraiser is still going on and we really need help funding our van! The vehicle is used and we need to replace both back tires, get a tune-up, and the breaks need to be checked. This van has made a huge difference in the amount of food that we have been able to provide our patrons and we would like to continue to be able to do so. If you can, please donate! If you can’t donate, please share the campaign!
The Bay Area Street Pantry operates every Friday at the Melrose Branch Library from 10:30am-12:30pm. If you or anyone you know in the Oakland City area needs food then stop by for free food. Make sure you’re in line by 12:30pm in order to be serviced. We hand out service numbers starting at 9:00am.
EDFU Foundation would like to congratulate our board member, Dr.Dimah Mahmoud, on rebranding and relaunching her Nubian heritage initiative. Now known as “Nubia Ooni”, the organization aims to preserve, record, archive, and teach Nubian history and stories from the past, present, and to come.

Today, August 1st, also marks the beginning of the Our Food is Afrikan campaign. This is a month-long celebration of Afrikan food. From recipes and stories to interactive challenges and knowledge-sharing, join us for a month of fun and yum!
